In a petition backed by the National College Players Association (NCPA), 300 football and men’s basketball student-athletes from Arizona, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Purdue, and UCLA seek, among other things, 1) an “educational lock box” for football and men’s basketball student-athletes to access after they have exhausted their eligibility to continue their education or receive any leftover funds attributed to them; 2) multi-year scholarships; 3) legislation to prevent a permanently injured student-athlete from losing his scholarship; and 4) require that institutions pay for all of the costs of student-athletes’ sports-related medical expenses.  The NCPA has over 1,400 members and has advocated for the rights of student-athletes for a decade.  This petition is in furtherance of such advocacy and requests that the NCAA “realize its mission to educate and protect [student-athletes] with integrity.”
