Cheating: There Is Nothing Worse

In the world of sports, there is nothing worse than cheating.  Over the course of history and in recent years, there has been a public outcry bemoaning the activities of Pete Rose and the alleged activities of Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds (among others).  Recently, former University of San Diego point guard Brandon Johnson was indicated for allegedly participating a point shaving scheme.  This, of course, makes all administrators involved in intercollegiate athletics think long and hard about ways to prevent such activities on their campuses.  Luckily, the NCAA and many member institutions have good programs in place to educate student-athletes about gambling and the problems associated with gambling.  In fact, many member institutions hire consultants and speakers to come tell real life stories about the pitfalls of gambling.  This is an unfortunate story, but one that cannot be blamed on the institutions for the transgressions of a student-athlete and a team of others.
