Spencer's legal practice focuses on business bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, and complex commercial litigation. Prior to joining Barlow Garsek & Simon, LLP, Spencer served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jeff Bohm, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division. While clerking for Judge Bohm, Spencer gained unique insight into the inner workings of the bankruptcy court and was exposed to myriad bankruptcy and state-law issues in both bankruptcy cases and adversary proceedings.
Spencer attended Cornell University before attending law school at South Texas College of Law in Houston. During his tenure in law school, Spencer achieved national recognition for his achievements as a member of South Texas College of Law’s renowned moot court program, including winning best brief at the National Burton D. Wechsler First Amendment Moot Court Competition in 2008. Spencer also served on the Board of Editors of the South Texas Law Review.
Spencer frequently contributes to local publications and legal education seminars. He also participates in a number of scholarly presentations sponsored by the State Bar of Texas, including a discussion of ethical issues in bankruptcy, the proper use of expert witnesses, and the intersection of probate and family law with bankruptcy law.
